The Second Watercolor for Peace Painting

Into the Light No.2
Original Watercolor Painting
10 x 8
by Colleen Sanchez

I have a day job working in a gorgeous tropical garden. I love my job, but it does make it challenging to do my second job, painting which I love even more. This morning I'm off so I was finally able to finish this second watercolor for peace. This painting will be heading off to Nohea Gallery in Honolulu. Have a peaceful weekend everyone.

Watercolor Painting for Peace

Into the Light No. 1
Original Watercolor Painting on paper
10 x 8
by Colleen Sanchez
This weekend I really felt the need to paint something to represent my wish for peace. I think one of the ways I can contribute is to converse and live in a peaceful way, never attempting to harm others. We are all part of one community of human beings. For me white also represents peace so this is one of two white hibiscus I was working on. Soon I'll post the other one if it turns out the way I'd like it to.

This painting will be heading off to Nohea Gallery.

Original Watercolor Painting, Pink Hibiscus

Original Watercolor Painting
by Colleen Sanchez
8 x 8 on paper

Working on a few more paintings for the gallery. Just completed this pink hibiscus in watercolor yesterday. I found this lovely flower at Waimea Valley park a while back and of course fell in love. I don't know why but I continue to be obsessed with the Hibiscus flower. They may look easy to paint but they are not, however I'm always up for a challenge. A couple more small paintings to complete for the gallery and then I'll get back to the large landscapes. Mahalo for looking.

Original Floral Watercolor by Colleen Sanchez

From Darkness Into Light
by Colleen Sanchez
8 x 10
Original Watercolor on paper

I really love the challenge of painting white. I painted a square format of this hibiscus a few years ago just showing the main flower, and I thought it was nice, but I wanted to paint it again in a different composition and express the white with a lot more color. I'm happy with the result, like the bud in the back and perhaps this will inspire me to do a series of white florals. Could be fun.

This painting is for a special event so hopefully if will be sold during that auction. Thanks to the "Art of Peace" by DVAC for inviting me to participate in the event this year at the Pegge Hopper Gallery.

Contemporary Landscape Painting Work in Progress

22 x 30 WIP

Working on something new and different for me. I have dabbled in landscape but never with buildings. So far I've just put in some washes and a little bit of work on the canoes. Next I'll try to finish the buildings and trees before I tackle the water and the people filled canoe. I was quite nervous at first but then really started to have fun with this. I have two others to do as well, three in total for our newly redone building lobby.

Completed Hibiscus Painting

Waimea Girls
22 x 30 Watercolor on paper
by Colleen Sanchez

Finished my full sheet hibiscus painting this morning. This one is off to the framers and then headed for the gallery. I had such a good time painting these flowers. I saw these gorgeous hibiscus at the Waimea Valley Botanical Gardens on the north shore of Oahu and fell in love. The light was perfect with the dark background and little bits of light twinkling through I knew I'd have to paint them. I'm so happy to get back into the watercolor painting again.

Contemporary Watercolor Hibiscus Flowers - WIP

Full Sheet WIP
Still have a lot to do on this painting that I'm working on for the gallery that I'm being represented by now. By the end of the September, Nohea Gallery in Honolulu will have this and a few other of my watercolors. It was exciting and flattering to be approached by one of my favorite galleries in Honolulu. I'm looking forward to a long relationship with them. Now, to work.

This original watercolor rose painting is really as vibrant as it looks here. I loved the challenge of getting the bright colors without excessive layering.

A Luscious Pink Rose

Rose No.1
Watercolor on paper

Colleen Sanchez

This small painting will be going to Nohea Gallery

I had the urge to use watercolor today and of course I discovered I am still obsessed with flowers. I think that will always be the case, even though recently I have also come to really enjoy still life, working with pastel and oil. I see lots of painting and experimenting in my future.

For my very first posting on this new blog I thought it would be fun to first paint in soft pastels and then eat this big fat juicy mango. Yum, it was so good. My pug thought so too.
